Joseph Susanka has been working for institutions of Catholic higher education since graduating from Thomas Aquinas College in 1999. In early 2003, he decided to pursue his growing interest in film, attending night classes in screenwriting, cinematography, and film history at Los Angeles City College for two years.

Fortified by just enough cinematic knowledge to be dangerous, he followed Greeley’s advice to go West; a move, oddly enough, that involved heading East to Wyoming. Accompanied by his wife and sons, he came to rest in the town of Lander, “where Stetsons meet Birkenstocks.” After accidentally (and providentially) stumbling across his local library's “Indie Films” program, he discovered that Lander was nowhere near as distant from the Movie Scene as he'd expected when he made the trek. Inspired, he began writing movie pieces (and eventually, blogging full-time) at then-InsideCatholic.com with semi-regularity.

Emboldened by his success (or by his readership's head-scratching reluctance to call him out for playing at film criticism), he graduated to the weekly “Through a Lens, Darkly” column for the Catholic Channel at Patheos.com, and also spent several years blogging regularly at the “Summa This, Summa That” blog (at the same site).

Nowadays, in addition to gathering the best of his once and future writing under the auspices of JosephSusanka.com, he is planning to announce a handful of new projects that have been marinating in his mind for just long enough to have reached the “Dangerously Amaturish” status he demands of all his best work. In the meantime, he spends his free time coaching Little League baseball, exploring the beautiful Wind River Mountains, keeping track of his (currently) seven sons, being amazed by his (currently) lone daughter, and thanking his lucky stars for Netflix.
